Visual Merchandising Displays for Retail Stores

Visual merchandising is how a store tells people what to look at first. We design and build the physical pieces that do that work: window displays, feature tables, wall bays, plinths and shop display units. Everything is made in our Sydney workshop, and we install in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and freight to every other state.

Window display design

The window has about three seconds to earn a shopper's attention from the footpath or the centre mall. A good window display does that with one clear idea, one hero product and enough depth that it reads from a distance.

We build window schemes from painted timber, printed fabric, acrylic and lighting, designed to be installed out of trading hours and removed without damaging the shopfront. For chains, we make one master scheme and a set of components sized to each store's window, so a campaign looks the same in every location.

Our retail window display ideas article has more on what works in a window.

In-store displays we build

Feature tables and plinths

The first thing a shopper reaches inside the door. Built at a height that lets people pick up and try products, with storage underneath for backup stock.

Wall bays and shelving

Slatwall, timber shelving and lit wall bays that group a range and make the price points easy to read.

Shop display units

Freestanding gondolas, cube units and mobile stands on lockable castors, so the floor can be reset for a sale or event.

Seasonal and promotional displays

Christmas, end-of-financial-year and launch displays built to be stored and reused, like the Festive Cheers pop-up we built for Billson's.

Counter and POS displays

Displays at the register for impulse and add-on sales. See our point of sale displays page.

Brand concession spaces

Shop-in-shop fixtures that a brand owns inside a larger store, built to the host retailer's fixture rules.

Built to survive the shop floor

Retail displays get knocked by trolleys, leaned on and restocked every day, so we build them like furniture rather than props. That means solid substrates, sealed edges, laminates or 2-pac paint on high-touch surfaces, and fixings staff can undo with a standard hex key when the layout changes.

Because our woodworking, CNC routing, spray painting, metalwork, electrical and vinyl printing are all in-house, a table, a wall bay and a window piece can share the same timber, paint colour and lighting temperature. Buying them from separate suppliers rarely gets that result.

What to have ready for a visual merchandising brief

  1. Store plans or photos with measurements. Window width, depth and height, plus any shopfront restrictions from the centre.
  2. The product and how much of it. Pack sizes and the stock level you want on display.
  3. Brand guidelines. Colours, fonts and any finishes the brand already uses in store.
  4. Rollout details. How many stores, whether windows differ in size, and the install window for each site.
  5. Reuse plan. Whether the pieces will be stored for next year, which changes how we build them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is visual merchandising?

Visual merchandising is the way products are presented in a store, including windows, feature tables, wall displays and signage, to guide shoppers and lift sales. It covers the physical displays as well as how products are arranged on them.

Do you design and build, or only build to our drawings?

Both. We can design the displays from your brief, or build to drawings from your in-house visual merchandising team or retail designer.

Can you roll out the same window display to multiple stores?

Yes. We build a master design and size the components to each store's window, then pack and label them per store for install.

Can seasonal displays be stored and reused?

Yes. We can build them to break down into labelled components for storage. Tell us at the brief stage so we choose materials and fixings that handle repeated assembly.

Do you install after hours?

We can schedule window and in-store installs before opening or after close so trade is not disrupted, and confirm the times with the store or centre management.
