Point of Sale Displays Built to Sell, Not Just to Look Good

A point of sale display has one job: get a product picked up in the few seconds a shopper spends at the counter, the shelf end or the checkout queue. Brij & Co designs and builds permanent and semi-permanent POS displays in our own workshop in Ingleburn, Sydney, using timber, acrylic, metal and printed graphics, and delivers them to stores and venues across Australia.

What counts as a POS display

POS (point of sale, sometimes called point of purchase) covers any display that sits where the buying decision happens. In practice our clients ask us for:

  • Counter displays: compact units that hold stock beside the register, often with a header card or a lit logo.
  • Floor-standing display units (FSDUs): freestanding towers or gondola ends that hold a full product range at eye height.
  • Shelf and fixture add-ons: shelf strips, risers, plinths and branded trays that lift one product above its neighbours.
  • Feature and hero displays: oversized or sculptural pieces, like the giant product bottles we built for BKT, that stop people in the aisle.

The right format depends on where it will stand, how much stock it needs to hold and how long it has to last.

Permanent, semi-permanent or throwaway?

This is the first question we ask, because it decides the material and the price more than anything else.

Permanent POS (1 year and up)

Built in timber veneer, laminate, powder-coated metal or thick acrylic. It survives daily handling, restocking and cleaning. Suits brand-owned counters, flagship stores and concession spaces.

Semi-permanent POS (3 to 12 months)

MDF or ply with painted or vinyl-wrapped finishes, and graphics you can swap. Suits seasonal ranges and campaigns that roll through several stores.

Short-run cardboard

For a one-off, four-week promotion, a corrugated cardboard FSDU from a specialist printer is usually cheaper than anything we would build. We will tell you when that is the better call.

How we design a POS display that actually sells

A display that looks great in a render can fail on the shop floor. These are the checks we run on every POS brief.

  1. Hold the right amount of stock. We size shelves and hooks around your pack dimensions and how often staff restock, so the display never looks empty by Saturday afternoon.
  2. Put the product at hand height. The hero product sits between waist and eye level. Branding goes above it, overflow stock goes below.
  3. Fit the real footprint. We work from the retailer's fixture guidelines or your site measurements, including counter depth, aisle clearances and power points.
  4. Make it easy to restock and clean. Removable trays, wipeable finishes and no sharp corners at child height.
  5. Plan the graphics for change. Magnetic or slide-in graphic panels mean a new campaign costs a print, not a new display.
  6. Pre-assemble before delivery. Every unit is assembled and checked in our workshop before it is flat-packed or crated, so nothing is discovered for the first time in store.

Materials and finishes

Everything is made in-house with our own woodworking, CNC routing, spray painting, metalwork, electrical and vinyl printing teams. That lets us match finishes across a whole display family rather than buying parts from five suppliers.

MaterialBest for
Timber veneer and solid timberPremium counter units, natural and wellness brands
Laminate and 2-pac painted MDFHard-wearing retail fixtures in any brand colour
Acrylic (clear, frosted, coloured)Risers, testers, cosmetics and tech accessories

LED strips, lit logos and small screens can be built in by our electrical team, with cabling hidden inside the unit.

POS and retail display work

A few projects where display design did the selling: the Dulce kiosk counter, BKT's oversized product bottles and Verosol's mobile blind sample stands.

From brief to store: how a POS project runs

  1. Brief: tell us the product, the stores or venues, quantities and the date it needs to be on the floor.
  2. Concept and quote: we sketch the unit with dimensions and materials and send an itemised quote.
  3. Prototype: for multi-store rollouts we can build one unit first so you can check it with real stock before the full run.
  4. Production: made in our workshop, pre-assembled and checked, then packed for freight.
  5. Delivery and install: we deliver directly in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and coordinate freight to other states.

Timing depends on quantity and finish, so we confirm the production schedule in writing with the quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a point of sale display?

A point of sale (POS) display is any fixture placed where the purchase decision happens, such as beside the register, at the end of an aisle or at a counter. It holds and promotes a specific product or range.

What is the difference between a POS display and a visual merchandising display?

POS displays sit at the point of purchase and are built to move a specific product. Visual merchandising covers the wider store, including windows, feature tables and wall displays. We build both; see our visual merchandising displays page.

Can you make one display, or only large runs?

Both. We build one-off hero displays and runs for multi-store rollouts. For a run, we can build one unit first so you can check it with real stock before the rest are made.

Do you make cardboard POS displays?

No. We build permanent and semi-permanent displays in timber, acrylic, metal and printed graphics. For a short, single-promotion cardboard unit, a corrugated printer is usually better value.

Can the graphics be changed for new campaigns?

Yes. We design most units with slide-in, magnetic or clip-in graphic panels so a new campaign only needs new prints.

Do you deliver outside Sydney?

Yes. We deliver and install directly in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and arrange freight to stores in every other state.
